Here’s what Americans get with their cell phone carriers that in no way do Canadians get.
It’s a joke really, over & over again I see how Canadian companies treat Canadians like garbage, & over & over again I see how Americans get discounts, free items, anything to entice them to stay or buy.
- They get evenings & weekends free, the question is never even asked do you want evenings & weekends free, because you don’t pay anything for this feature in the States.
- Some if not all cell companies get unlimited minutes per day, or the amount of minutes you get is so high, you wouldn’t even notice.
- Free long distance. While some American cell phone carriers have restrictions like only free long distance in X States, or only within the US, not to Alaska, Hawaii or Canada, believe it or not, there are some carriers that have free long distance all throughout North America.
How many Canadian cell phone companies offer free long distance within Canada or the US????
NONE!!!!!!!!!!
- Now they even have roll over minutes where if you don’t use all your minutes in one month, they can roll over to the next.
This goes back to 2002/2003, this isn’t something new for American cell phone carriers.
- Also, if you call a friend who is on the same carrier as you, you don’t have to pay. I would have to check to see if that’s just within the same network or they allow that from different network/carrier to network. If anyone knows, please post.
Yes Canada has something similar now, but it’s only if your family has a cell, then you can call or text for free, not to friends, & this is a fairly new feature.
- Transferring your cell phone number with you when you move to another cell phone company. Americans have had this feature for a while now, Canada only got this what was it, January of 2008 or thereabouts?
- Oh & can a few Americans tell us whether you pay that bloody system access fee that the Canadian cell phone carriers used to “imply” was a governmental fee until someone complained (OMG, some Canadians complained) & the only news magazine show worth anything in Canada Market Place (it’s barely aired, that’s how much the public cares about outing companies who rip consumers off) aired the story a year or two ago.
Turns out Americans are also charged for such fees, they just aren’t called system access fees.
American cell phone carriers like Verizon charge for you to upload or transfer songs which can be a huge cost.
I couldn’t even find Market Place in the search engines when I searched under “Canada’s News Magazine Show”, but hey, don’t even get me started on how archaic Canadian businesses & websites are. Most Canadian businesses don’t even have websites, let alone show up in the search engines, but that’s another story for another post.

http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=379411 – other Canadians that know that the government protects these companies who rip Canadians off.
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/10/06/canadian-court-certifies-class-action-lawsuit-against-carriers/ – LOL, read the American’s response, he/she can’t believe US Canadians are getting ripped off.
Umm, darlin, Canadians let this happen, Canadians are very weak (I never said happy) individuals. They do everything their government tells them to do & they just take it.
I’m trying not to lose my temper about this, but this is the bottom line in my opinion, Canadians never get anything from their government or Canadian businesses because these 2 sectors know they can walk all over Canadians.
